Switch Avodart for Propecia – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Dear Dr. Rassman,
I have used Propecia for many years now but continue to lose my hair and just in the last few days I discontinued its use in favor of Avodart. My main concern is if I should continue with Propecia since it has proven effective for hairloss alongside Avodart use or will Avodart alone do the same job? In other words, I know Propecia works. Am I risking hairloss by discontinuing its use?
Thank you.

If you switched, you can abandon Propecia. I doubt that stopping Propecia will negatively impact you while you are on Avodart.

  1. How can I get Avodart without a prescription? If this is not possible, are there particular MDs that will prescribe? I’ve been on Finasteride for years, and I believe it has prevented me from going completely bald…although I am thinner now than when I started taking it several years back. I think a new approach may be beneficial…
    Thanks

  2. Order Dutas from Inhouse Pharmacy. I was initially a little skeptical, however, once I started taking it I experienced a small shed followed by what can only be described as a complete halt to my hairloss and some quite dramatic thickening. Hair looks better than it has for a long, long time.

  3. Well I am 23 years old and last October I went on Propecia 1MG per day.
This past February I had a hair transplant with Bosley
And now six months later, I just got a prescription for Avodart.
I don’t know what all the hoopla was about getting a prescription for avodart. Any dermatologist who gives Propecia will give Avodart. She said “As long as you know it is offbrand and FDA has not approved it for hair loss, then I will prescribe it.” She also said how most acne medications are offbrand, such as Tetracycline and Minocycline. They are antibiotics meant for bacteria, not acne, but dermatologists prescribe it, just like they prescribe avodart for HAIR LOSS. You dont need to go lie to a doct to get Avodart, just tell them for hair loss and they will warn you but still give you the prescription. And BTW , West Dermatology is huge, and they did it.
