I Want To Reduce Sebum Production – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Dr. Rassman,
I have a increased sebum production in the scalp ( the vertex )The sides and back are normal with no hair loss. I have tried several madicines (topically)to reduce the sebum production in scalp and nothing has worked. Is there a oral medicine that can reduce the sebum production by reducing the size if the oil glands? Will lowering DHT ( by taking DHT inhibitors like Dutasteride ) reduce the sebum production?.I am writing with a lot of hope because no one in India seems to have an answer to this problem.I am sure that there will be some medicine that can reduce the size of the oil glands and reduce sebum.I have heard about Isotretinoin and zileuton, will they work in reducing sebum?
Kindly adivice, I will be extremely greatfull to you.

Good shampoos for oily hair are the best way to manage oily scalp. I am sure that various hormones will reduce sebum, but at what real cost to your health? Do not poison your system with drugs to solve this problem.

  2. I’m from India and im 27 years old.I started lossing my hair very easily for the pasr 2 1/2 years and its non stop.Im feed with applying oils and still im continuing to loose. I have itchy dry scalps and i went to dermatologist in india(one year back). My Indian dermatologist gave me fluocinolone acetonide 0.025% lotion and i applied it daily twice. I got relieved from hair loss and itchy dry problem. Everything was in control for 2 months. Suddenly after trimming my hair, it again started to trouble me with hair loss. It got aggregravated and its out of control.I went to another dermatologist, they asked me to apply minioxidil and propecia and other tablets(bition, antioxidant tablets)Inspite of evrything, nothing has stoppped my hair loss and itchy. Four months back, i came to minneapolis and it got aggregavated and i started to have itchy terrbily. I went to family physician in minnapolis and he asked to use selenium sulphide and cope shampo.. Itchy and dry scalp was solved to extent and hair loss was reduced. I stopped combing my hair because it falls down so easily.I dont know what to do now and i have no family history of HAIR LOSS.
