Worst Case Progression from Propecia-Only? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

From your practice, what is the worst progression of balding that you have seen with someone taking only Propecia and not anything else like Minoxidil? Like what Norwood was he before and after and how long was he taking it and how old was he?

I routinely prescribe finasteride for all balding men, so progression is not evident as the process slows down considerably. In the days when Propecia was not available, the balding process was very evident in a matter of a few years, but now when Propecia is used, I just have not seen the radical changes in balding patterns.

  1. Thank you for not answering the question at all!Can you not see that from your reply you have misled any potential reader?Am I supposed to infer from your reply that no progression will occur? Or that progression will occur?!

  2. Um, what part did you need me to help you with? I did answer the question, which specifically asked “from your practice” — and in my practice, I haven’t seen terrible progression. Infer whatever you want.

  3. Well, if my eyes serve me right he asked you what was the worst case of progression that you have seen of someone on propecia. You answered that you “just don’t see the radical changes anymore”. To a reader such as myself that implies that perhaps you don’t see any noticeable progression at all! Yet you say people do progressively go bald. So that makes me think – first off that you didn’t answer the question – and perhaps you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about and propecia may be effective forever. I have started propecia with no visible signs of balding and I want to know how long propecia will let me keep this appearance. There is conflicting research out there. Some say that it will forever be effective and that the 5 year time-line was an error in the merck study. I would just like someone to give a definitive answer but it doesn’t seem that I’m going to get it!
