Hair Loss InformationMy Entire Family is Losing Hair and Nobody Knows Why! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

My husband and my 8 year old daughter and myself have been losing our hair. It was really bad there for awhile. We have lost half our hair. No one seems to know why..We went to the Derm, A toxocl, and our family dr. Whats even more upsetting is no one is taking this serious. How can be like that? It hurts when your 8 year old asks “mommy why am I losing my hair” and you cant give her a reason.

do you know what it might be? We have also had blisters on our arms and back..and I had a rash that looked like a sunburn on my chest and back..and my head was on fire! Do you think it could be a chemical we may have came in contact with..and if so will out hair grow back? We have always had thick , thick hair now its real thin and fine…so confused and upset..please help..

Question markThis is quite the mystery. I wish I could provide some insight, but there’s really no way I can seriously help when even the doctors you have seen face-to-face cannot come up with the answer. I’m at the great disadvantage of not having met you to learn more about your history. There’s just so many possibilities… anything from disease to infection to chemical, etc, etc. The blisters and rash are interesting, but I wouldn’t even know where to start with that. Are they coincidence? They could be related, but again, I’m at a total loss.

All I can suggest is to keep looking for that doctor who will listen to you and take you seriously. That should be your first step. Until you find out what is going on, there’s no way you can figure out how to resolve it. I do wish you good luck and hope you to hear from you when you finally get to the bottom of whatever is going on.

  1. food allergies? you are all eating the same thing i assume since you are a family. And you have rashes, i dont know just throwing stuff out there

  2. I know this may sound far fetched but it sounds to me like it could be something bizarre like radiation poisoning. Perhaps a broken microwave or something like that. I’m no expert but it sounds worrying. If I were you I’d get someone into your home to assess the domestic environment. If it is something like that, it could be very serious indeed. Good luck!

  3. I just wanted to weigh in.
    Environmental mold can cause this.
The person who said radiation may also be right. GET YOUR HOME CHECKED!

  4. The same thing is happening to my family, sans the rashes. We haven’t gone to any doctors for fear of going through the same thing you are (with them not taking you seriously). Who wants to pay $60+ to be looked at for one minute and told you’re imagining things?? We certainly don’t have that kind of money to throw around, so we’d like something to go on, at least. We thought maybe it was the water, but we looked at the city’s test records and they show no signs of contamination. We thought it could be mold, but according to information I’ve read, hair loss is an advanced stage of mold poisoning, and we’ve had no other symptoms. We’re at a loss.If you’ve figured anything out by now, please email me @hh.haven@yahoo.com. Any information/ideas appreciated!

  5. I have the same problem, too. At first it was just my husband who was losing his hair very quickly. In two weeks, he lost so much hair his co-workers even commented on it. We attributed it to stress because he was under tremendous stress at that time.
But then I also noticed the same thing happening to my 14 year old daughter and 15 year old son. It was only more noticeable with my husband because he has so much less hair to begin with and my teenage kids have very thick hair.
I am also at a loss as to the reason. We all eat very differently so I’m not sure food is a factor. If water was the culprit then all my neighbors should be losing their hair too. I was wondering if vitamins may be a reason. Are there any vitamins that may be causing this?

  6. My family and I moved into a new house last December. By April, my 2 year old looked like I shaved her head. My husband and I are both rapidly losing our hair. I had my water checked specifically for arsenic, lead, etc. but it all tested negative. I’ve had it checked out for gas leaks and carbon but that was negative too. I’m at a completely loss but it can’t be a coinsident that it happening to ALL of us at the SAME TIME from moving into this house.

  7. My 2 year old starting losing all of her hair and I focused the entire summer on getting her healthy. By that fall, my entire family was losing hair. My husband (only 37) went to having a full head of hair to a baseball size bald spot withinn 3 months. I went frantic trying to track down what was making us sick as it was obviously enviromental. I had water, carbon monoxide, radon, etc. etc. tested and they all came back normal. I finally spent the money on getting mold tests done and we had a lot of toxic molds in our house. My daughter had a 33% of stachebotrys (black mold) air quality in her bedroom. It was a horrible year for me as a mom but after removing the mold, our hair has all grown back and we are healthy again. Tip for mold testing: there a lot of different companies that do this. I chose air tests because there was no visibe mold anywhere. In fact, my house was the dryest any inspector has ever seen. Call around. Some will charge over $400 just to come to your house and then over $100 per test (which usually you have to have a minimum of 3). I finally found a microbiologist that did NOT charge me a location fee and only charged $140.00 per test. Good luck in getting your family healthy again and don’t lose yourself in the process.

  8. Hello,Did anybody who posted find out why you are losing your hair? My husband and I have been losing hair since a year ago. Started at the same time for both of us, we are in the late 30s, our daughter is OK. We already changed apartments, did hair toxicity tests. Each of us seen a different dermatologists and both say it is Telogen Effluvium but no one knows why or how to stop it. My hair started growing back a little about a month ago, then we both started on vitamins – magnesium, vitamin D and B but this week I started losing hair again. Last week I was at a school function sitting at the raising auditorium and noticed that half the women in my SF East Bay CA town are bolding.
