This young man decided to shave his head and with the help of scalp micropigmentation (SMP) he looks like he has a full head of hair and maximizes this good looks. This is an option that is being taken up more and more by young men wanting a perfect looking head of hair, even when they are balding and our practice is booming performing this procedure. This is a non-surgical process that can be performed on any many with any degree of balding provided that he shaves his head like the man below.

 

This is a review of a patient who had a hair transplant surgery to address the thinning and a high forehead. The hair transplant established a non-balding “frame” to his face, but the SMP gave him the look of fullness.

This is a review of a SMP procedure performed at New Hair Institute Medical Group. This is a female patient who had traction alopecia from wearing her hair pulled back too tight. She also had a component of triangle alopecia. SMP diminished the contrast between skin and hair. Note: patient also colored her hair on the after photo.

This patient had almost everything that could go wrong with hair transplantation including: Scalp reductions, multiple hair transplants and depletion of his donor area from the multiple surgeries in the past. More hair transplants were not an option. His results showed thinning but on the brighter side of things, he felt that he did not look bald when he kept his hair longer and styled it appropriately. He was still not satisfied with his hair and the coverage of his hair restoration procedures. He did not like the large multiple white scars on he back of his head which showed up on windy days or with swimming. He decided he would try Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) to enhance his appearance, address the scars and have SMP under the thin hair on the top to make it look a bit thicker. He still has thinning hair but SMP helped hide the scar and gave him the illusion of more fullness on the top of his head.

This is a review of a 20 year old patient who started to bald after he hit puberty. He was so devastated he actually skipped going to school for over a year. He shaved his head and tried to accept his genetic fate when he found out about Scalp Micropigmentation. After his transformation, he came back and gave all the staff a big hug.

Tom decided to have Scalp MicroPigmentation but his original efforts to tackle balding started with his first hair transplant when he was 19 years-old. Now at 47, he reports on the real price he paid for a poor decision when the technology was very primitive some 30 years ago. A hair transplant on any genetically balding 19 year-old male is considered malpractice today. The quality of Tom’s life was negatively impacted by his hair transplant due to the terrible results. Yes, Scalp Micropigmentation will make your hair look fuller, but if you continue to lose hair, then you need a plan. Think about it and see a good doctor to help you build a plan for a worst case scenario. The SMP works forever, if you shave your head.

This is a review of what is possible when you combine Scalp MicroPigmenation (SMP) with a hair transplant surgery using the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique performed at New Hair Institute by Dr. Jae Pak.

The following patient is in his 30’s and always wore hats. Even in the house with the family or with friends he wore hats because he was not happy with his balding pattern. He eventually decided on a FUE procedure because he didn’t want the linear scar on the back of his head in case he wanted to shave his head in the future. If all else fails, he thought at least he can shave his head without any worries about scars. He eventually went on to have 3 FUE surgeries over the years as his hair loss progressed and received about 5000 grafts. Despite the new look and the permanent transplanted hair, he wanted fullness and even wanted to shave his head for a buzz cut look.

Eventually, he had the Scalp MicroPigmentation procedure and he had the best of all scenarios: He can cut his hair long or short and he will always have the look of fullness.

Note that hair transplant procedure is a great option for those who are balding. But you will never get full thick hair since the basic concept of a hair transplant surgery is just relocating hair from one location (back of head) to another location (front and top of head). There is nothing new being added. Hair transplant is basically artistically rearranging the hairs around. Scalp MicroPigmentaion is used to augment the limitation of a hair transplant to provide the look of fullness by minimizing the contrast between hair and scalp.

This patient finally threw away the hat he wore for so many years.
