Intense Scalp Itch After Hysterectomy a Decade Ago

I am a 51 year old female who had a complete hysterectomy 10 years ago. My scalp has been itching ever since and I find hair on my pillow every morning. Fortunately, I also began with very thick hair. The itching is intense. I was diagnosed with a fragrance allergy, but using fragrance free products (everything) does not help at all. Dandruff shampoo made no difference. Prescription shampoo did not help. I hate to think I will have this condition for the rest of my life. I’ve tried cutting back on my hormone replacement hoping it would help, but it didn’t.

If I examined your scalp I might make sense of what you are telling me here, but there’s not much help I can offer you without seeing you and knowing more about your history. Just note that scratching your scalp harshly will eventually cause hair loss from traction alopecia.

Since treating a fragrance allergy didn’t resolve the itchy scalp, you should go back to your dermatologist for a follow-up. It’s possible the HRT is leading to the scalp itch, but this is something you should also be discussing with your doctor.

Insulin Resistance and Hair Loss

Finnish researchers conducted a study involving women’s hair loss to determine if a high-glycemic diet and carbohydrates contribute to their balding. In the study, women who were more insulin resistant and ate more carbs had a higher risk of developing androgenic alopecia (AGA) hair loss. Aug 10, 2017.

We also know that men with insulin resistance have more cardiac disease and many with such diseases seem to have more hair loss as well, male or female.

Insulin costs for the consumer is 10 times or more the cost to produce it

This morning, Eli Lilly announced its earnings for the third quarter of 2019: $5.5 billion dollars. In the same time period, people died because they couldn’t afford their insulin — a medication Eli Lilly sells and charges $275 for, despite it costing $21 in 1996. That is bad business for the consumers.

Insulin and Finasteride

There is a link between finasteride or dutasteride and insulin sensitivity as shown in this article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4207930/

The conclusion of the article states: Dual inhibition of 5?Rs, but not inhibition of 5?R2 alone, modulates insulin sensitivity in human peripheral tissues rather than liver. This may have important implications for patients prescribed dutasteride for prostatic disease.

If you’re using min it is an oil or propylene glycol based substance that you are putting on your scalp twice a day, you need to be rinsing that off with some kind of detergent to get rid of that additional oil deposits. Minoxidil can also be incredibly drying so you need to maintain the moisture of your hair so that it doesn’t become dry or brittle or unhealthy. My suggestion for you would be to come off of the minoxidil and start with a shampoo conditioner leave-in conditioning treatment and see if you can’t get your scalp and hair back to a natural healthy state. You must use shampoo and conditioner every time you wash your head. A minimum of two times a week

Instant Growth of Hair Transplant? (with Photos)

Here’s a patient that reported continued growth of his hair transplants without going through the dreaded dormant phase that usually occurs for some time following the procedure. Now to be honest, the After photos were taken just under 2 years after the surgery so I can’t say I saw this instant (or continued) growth with my own eyes… but the patient is a doctor and is convinced that the reason he didn’t experience any fall-out was due to taking vitamin B2 and fish oils. I’ll leave it up to you if you want to try that approach in hopes of continued hair growth following a transplant, but I wanted to share the results here nonetheless. Click the photos to enlarge.

Injecting Minoxidil Into the Scalp

Hi there doctor rassman
here is a study on minoxidil injected to the scalp vs topical treatment – Egyptian Dermatology Online Journal

The injected minoxidil was done 2 times and then one time a week and yielded greater results than topical treatment.

This is clearly not an approved study; however, I would not doubt the results reported by the Egyptian doctor. Minoxidil was originally an oral medication for the treatment of high blood pressure, and it worked, though not well.

At an ISHRS meeting a couple of years ago, it was reported that minoxidil by mouth or intramuscularly could reverse hair loss and was a common practice in India. We know from the old studies on the oral minoxidl that systemic administration produced excess hair production in different parts of the body.

I will not be offering it in my practice until the FDA comes out in favor of it, but it is interesting research.

Hi, if i use an syringe and inject finasteride into scalp is it dangerous?

I would not inject finasteride unless it is prepared by a pharmacy specifically for injection. I don’t know why you would want to do this as it may be dangerous.
