I‘m about to do one at the age of 25. However since I’m not an extreme case (a slower hair loss) I’m scared that my hair behind the new implanted hair will fall out. How often does this happen? Will this happen if I don’t use finasteride?

If you take finasteride and, worst case, get side effects of any sort, you can stop the medication. In my fairly extensive experience I have never seen permanent side effects that don’t go away with stopping it.

You probably won’t get enough hair growth from finasteride. A hair transplant at 25, is probably the best solution for you.

Is it rational for me to think that either a forehead reduction or a hair transplant at 24 is a good idea because my forehead bothers me?

I never TELL patients what to do, I just educate them. At 24 for a male, it is rarely a good idea to do any hair work unless you have certainty about your balding pattern, have a HAIRCHECK test to help you determine that pattern, sit down with a very good skilled doctor who cares about you and not the money he will make from giving you some type of surgery. Your hair loss pattern is a thinning Norwood Class 3A pattern with a persistent frontal forelock. This forelock does not look strong so I think with time, it will get worse and the forelock will disappear. I would need to examine you and find out what classification of hair loss you have. For example, do you have some frontal recession? At this age, the best treatments are finasteride with minoxidil. I would try it for a full year. A hair transplant at your age, would catch you in a transition to balding and just make it worse. There is never a rush to do a hair transplant because so many young men who rush are sorry that they did it.
