19 Year Old Female with Receding Hairline

I am an almost 19 year old female and I have a high forehead. I was coloring my hair the other day and noticed that I have a receding hairline. I also noticed that there is ‘new growth’ but it is very blonde and there is not enough of it to cover the areas. I have also smoked for three years and have been under quite a bit of stress lately. Will it continue to fall out? Is there anything I can do to stop it from doing so? Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

High hairlines in some women are normal genetic patterns, like the size of your nose and other facial proportions. If you really have a high hairline since you were much younger, then there are things you could do for it surgically.

Some women with the genetic hair loss genes can lose their hair in response to stress and when the stress is over, most regrow their hair. What you are describing, however, is not clear for me to make a diagnosis. I always tell women with hair loss to get checked out by a doctor and be sure that there are not medical causes of hair loss. The most common include hypothyroidism, genetics, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, anemia, crash diet and oral contraception pill. In your case, smoking does not help your situation, but it is not the main reason for your hair loss. Otherwise, every smoker would be bald. Cigarettes have many chemicals which are toxic to your body and may assist other factors to induce your hair loss. Smoking may lead to less blo0d supply to your scalp which may lead to weakened growth of hair. I recommended that you visit a dermatologist and your primary care doctor to evaluate your hair loss and run blood tests to find out the cause of your hair loss.

1mg vs 5mg Finasteride for Hair Growth

Has there been any studies that have shown any increased hair growth taking proscar 5mg daily vs propecia 1 mg daily.

The 1mg dose is just as good as the 5mg dose for treating hair loss. This was determined when the drug company (Merck) did effectiveness testing. I am sure you can get it from the FDA. For urological problems, the 5mg dose is more effective. The question is really about how much finasteride binds to the hair follicles themselves. We know for prostate problems, that there is different binding dynamics than with hair follicles. I am not familiar with any study that directly compares the 5mg dose to the 1mg dose, but I would suspect that like any bell curve, the 1mg recommendation applies to those individuals in the center of the bell curve and that some people most certainly would be better with a higher dose, possibly worth trying if the 1mg dose is not adequate to meet the needs of the patient’s problem. I Am 19 and Think That I May Be Developing a Norwood Class 6 or 7 Pattern.

If you are heading to a Class 6 or 7 at the age of 19, although it is unlikely that the drug Finasteride will prevent this, it is still worth a try.

Maybe you are not heading to the Class 6 or 7 pattern, and you inherited a different pattern that is not so advanced. There is no way to really tell. Most people don’t know that these advanced patterns almost always happen before a young man reaches 26 years of age.

Is it even worth fighting at this age? from tressless

19 Year Old Stressing Over School, Thinning at Hairline

I’m 19 and a freshman in college. I’ve been stressed these last two semesters over grades and other things and I noticed in January that my hair was thinning at the hairline on both sides. There are people in my family who are losing hair, but their hair loss didn’t even begin until they were in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s and it’s still not bad. I just wanted to know if this is likely from the stress or if it’s genetic since it’s forming in the male pattern baldness form. The hair loss is giving me even more stress and I don’t know what to do. I’m thinking about using propecia.

While emotional or physical stress may be a factor in hair loss, you may also have a component of genetic hair loss. There is no way for me to tell you or diagnose your condition via the internet. You need to see a doctor for a good diagnosis and a miniaturization study to see if there is a pattern (such as male pattern hair loss) to your hair loss problem. The good news is that if you have genetic balding, the drug Propecia (finasteride) can slow or stop it in a reasonable percentage of young men. At your age, clearly you need a Master Plan for your hair loss process.

I’m 18 and I lost part of my frontal hairline. Am I too late to start taking Finasteride?

For an 18 year-old with early frontal hair loss, it is the right timing for the drug Finasteride. The drug works best in young men and may even reverse the hair loss provided that what you are seeing is not a maturing hairline. A maturing hairline will not be affected by Finasteride. Your doctor will tell you if this is a maturing hairline or not. 19 Year Old, Parent Told Him He Is Not Balding, but He Is According to Haircheck!

This is a 19 year old who has been told by everyone in the family that he is not balding. He has coarse hair and is as curly as it gets, so this could hide any balding from the naked eye. We performed a HAIRCHECK and he was right, he has lost 1/3rd of his hair volume in the crown. From these pictures, it is easy to see why no one believed him, but he knew and I confirmed it today. He elected to take finasteride to treat what he now knows is balding.
