Is my donor area depleted?

5000+ grafts will probably not all grow
This unfortunate man who went to Turkey, has well more than 5000 grafts. I am sure his donor supply was significantly depleted and the grafts, at least many of them, may not grow. The people who perform such surgeries are challenged to product a very high number of grafts thinking that this is good surgery, even better surgery. In fact, this is POOR surgery because the grafts will not get enough blood supply to thrive and grow. There is also a good possibility that they patient may develop necrosis because the blood supply to the recipient area was cut off from the many wounds created for the recipient sites. As long as there are believers that this is a bargain that they can’t turn down, then these terrible surgeries will continue leaving victims flying home from Turkey now knowing what will happen to them and many with problems like necrosis which will require more expensive medical care.
Is One Hair Type Better Than Another?
Why does hair vary so much with people? Does coarse hair or kinky hair have an advantage over fine hair?
I remember a television piece done by CBS News’ 60 Minutes where they tracked what was claimed to be one of the original 12 tribes of Israel deep into the African continent through genetic testing on the Y Chromosome. In the few thousand years since the migration, the physical characteristics of the African became evident in these people with bigger lips, a wider nose, and kinky hair. I think that thermal regulation has a lot to do with the kinky hair, which allowed better cooling as a person chased an animal in the savannas of Africa during the hunt. Wide nasal passages allowed better air movement for breathing as well. The scalp is a major releaser of heat by preventing overheating in the summer, especially when heat generation adds to climatic conditions. On the other side, we know that when the French invaded Russia in Napoleon times, the winter killed more Frenchman than the battles. We also know that the bald men died during the retreat at a much higher rate than those with a full head of hair. Conservation of our body heat in the cold is another function of hair. In your question, you suggest that there is a better hair type; but better for what? Those with thin hair that sticks to a sweaty scalp may insulate better than a person with kinky hair, but not with coarse hair that lies flat. Also, there are no kinky-haired people outside of the original African population, indicating that kinky hair had an evolutionary advantage, so it evolved as the people adapted better to their geography and climate. If everyone originated out of the middle east, then we should look to our cousins there to see where we may have started from. This could be interesting topics of conversation for those of us who believe that one type of hair/person is better than another. When we put esthetics into the formulae for your question, then culture and vanity act as modifiers that go well beyond the influences of climate. Thanks for the insightful question. You have to give it between 12-18 months to see if it will reverse. Add topical minoxidil along with microneedling and you have a better chance of reversal

Is the last stage of balding always so fast?
During years me and my friends were balding and this year my friends went from diffuse thining to NW4/5 with a hairline. Even me before iv’e started Fin my hairloss went full speed in less then a year. From a NW1.5 to NW3 with crown thinning…
Does it always happen?
It all depends upon your genetics. Young men who inherit an advanced balding pattern usually get it by the time that they are 26 years old and will see the hair fall away rapidly starting somewhere between 17-21, Look at your parents family patterns (mother and father) so see what you might expect to see in yourself. Find a good doctor and build a proper Master Plan with that doctor to manage the hair loss if you are in this situation.

Is There a Way to Tell FUE Success After Just a Week or Month?
Hi Doctors, great blog here! It’s an amazing cross-reference and informative place.
Just wanted to know if there are any signs of a successful FUE transplant? (other than growth of hair at 8-10 months!!).
Can the patient tell within a week, or a month, whether the surgery he had would be, say, at least 80-90% successful? Are there any signs which suggest that yes the transplant was a success, and that the roots did not dry out, and were placed correctly etc.? ( I’m guessing, that if the transplanted hair kept growing till it fell out after 3/4 weeks, that means the roots were alive and firmly in place, and the surgery was good? )
I only ask about FUE, because it seems the more delicate procedure with a higher trans-section rate.

I know the anxiety you have. Everyone with a hair transplant wants to accelerate the clock, but it makes no real difference if the transplant is FUE or strip. In either case, you will start seeing the results (at least some results) somewhere between 4-6 months, with good growth by the 8th month. At one month, the hair sheds in probably 19 out of 20 people. Just be patient.
