Wellman Tricologic Tablets

Hello NHI team,
I have recentaly bought Wellman tricologic tablets, are for helping to maintain healthy hair follicles and existing hair growth. The tablets utilises Keratone, a combination of ligans, amino-acids, PABA(para-aminobenzoic acid) and pantothenic acid for the maintenance of natural hair colour. Here is some of what the tablets contain and this is what the box says and their website:

KeratoneTM includes;
• Standardised Lignan Extract – lignans (including the special compound Secoisolariciresionol Diglucoside) have been shown to help to naturally balance the conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is implicated in the male hair growth cycle.
• N-acetyl-cysteine – this amino acid supports hair growth, and hair shaft diameter for fuller hair.
• L-cystine – this amino acid dimer of cystine is integral to disulphide bonding in the keratin of the hair, supporting its strength.
• L-methionine – an essential amino acid that must be provided from the diet and participates in a wide range of hair related biochemical reactions.
• L-lysine – as essential amino acid.
• Choline – a constituent of lecithin in cell membranes. A lack of choline can influence hair growth and hair pigmentation
• Inositol – a constituent of lecithin in cell membranes and a growth factor for rapidly dividing hair cells. A lack of inositol can influence hair growth and skin health

Silicon – Silicon is the third most abundant trace element of the human body and is important in the structure of hair.
Iodine – Iodine plays a role in metabolism and required for hair growth to proceed at optimal levels.
Antioxidant vitamins C, E and Beta-carotene – help to protect against the damaging effects of free radicals, which can lead to premature ageing. Vitamin C is also essential in forming the connective tissue of the skin while Vitamin E may help support skin repair. Beta-carotene provides a source of vitamin A, which helps support scalp oil production and skin health.
B-vitamin complex – Essential in the health and growth of rapidly dividing cells such as those present in the hair follicle

Each specialist formula tablet provides 29 bio-active ingredients including essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients designed to nourish hair by maintaining healthy hair follicle metabolism.

My question is, what are your views on these tablets and how effective would they be. Would they be good if used with propecia/avodart. What is your opinion. Please, please reply. Thank you NHI team.

The list of ingredients excluded the kitchen sink, but I doubt that adding it would help with genetic hair loss. If there were deficiencies in diet in any of these areas, it would impact your overall health, of which your hair is clearly an important element. The problem with many of these ingredients is that the scientific connection between their availability to your body and hair loss or hair regrowth is just not there.

Have All the Hair Loss Questions Been Answered?

There are so many questions and answers here as well as that forum. I think you’ve covered most if not all questions that need to be asked. If people would take the time to look through them, I’m sure their questions would be answered. There comes a point where all the information becomes too overwhelming, and becomes information overload. Maybe it’s time to relax a bit, ay?

What is this “relax” you speak of? Actually, I stopped writing the blog around 3 years ago when I hired woodland elves to respond to your questions (they needed something to do after a long day of baking cookies in a tree). It seems to be working out well, even though they do have a tough time spelling “finasteride” correctly.

But seriously, it does sometimes seem like I answer a lot of the same questions from time to time, but maybe just worded in a different way… and although I’d prefer not to get repeats, I don’t necessarily mind as long as it’ll help someone out. I can’t get to every question and I know many people think their question is deserving (and it probably is), but I just kinda pick some emails that look neat and roll with it. Plus, from time to time I really get some fantastic questions that keep me on my toes. Look, for example, at the previous post which is probably real to some of those who believe in Balayam Yoga. Who am I to say that it does or does not work? As a reader, you are entitled to learn about different approaches to the balding problem and weigh the evidence of others for yourself.

Content is king, and after 7000+ posts here, I do feel that this site is one of the best sources for hair loss info on the web. I’m really proud of that.

What Are These Fine Hairs at the Leading Edge of My Hairline Corners?

I have a real fine dirty blonde straight hair texture. I am also Caucasian with pretty fair skin and I am 26 years old. The question I’d like to know is it normal I guess when lifting my hairline under bathroom fixture lightning to be able to see scalp in the corners? I’ve read a lot of blog questions and even have come across a few that are similar to the question that I have prepossessed but would like to get some clarification.

My corners of my hairline look to have matured to a norwood 2 possibly a norwood 1.5. In the corners I see normal sized hair but they seem to be slightly finer. The zone of finer hairs is like .5 cm of the leading edge and seems only to be in the corners. Is this considered a transition zone or would this be miniaturization or is it even common to even see finer hairs located in the corners of the hairline?

Also one more question if I may can you also just explain a little what a transition zone is and is this for hair transplant patients or is there also a transition in none balding men and women hairline as well?

Good questions.

A transition zone is present in everyone… that is, unless there is recession associated with balding. Generally, the transition zone has from 0.5-1cm one-hair follicular units and behind this zone the appearance of two-haired follicular units start showing up. In the very front of the transition zone is a layer of vellus hairs. This layer of vellus hairs can be identified as they are short, often colorless, and they do not have the obvious scalp “hole” where the hair exits the skin. These vellus hairs are the first hairs to go when frontal balding occurs and it is these hairs that you are seeing in your hairline.

Everyone is different and those with finer hair have a different appearance than those with coarse hair. Seeing through the hairline is normal, up to a point. The normal hairline should not have many miniaturized hairs (can be seen under a microscopic vision of the scalp in the doctor’s office).

Heart Disease from Minoxidil?

Hi DR, I have two questions: is it possible to get any heart disease by using topical minoxidil? And if I have chest pain what exactly is happening inside my body?

If you have chest pain, you need to go to the Emergency Room or call your doctor right away. Topical minoxidil does not cause heart disease and I’ve addressed the chest pain before. Minoxidil (when taken orally) is a blood pressure lowering drug and was originally used to treat high blood pressure, but it was not very effective or consistent. Side effects of topical minoxidil can include dizziness or palpitations, but this is rare (especially if you are using the recommended 5% solution).

What do you think of my hairline?

I think that you have a classic Mature Hairline and there is nothing to worry about. It is about 1 finger breadth above the highest crease of the furrowed brow and appears to be taking on its V-Shape with possibly some more minimal changes yet to come.

What happens if I drop my dose of finasteride from 1mg to half the dose?

I don’t know as everyone is different. Many people who drop the dose do just as well at half of the dose. With that said, I just saw a man who dropped the dose from 1mg to a half mg and saw hair loss from the drop. The studies that were done in the 1990s indicated that half the dose was 80% as effective on average as the full dose.

High Side Hairline (Above Ears) — Can It Be Lowered?

hi there,
i’ve been reading some of these articles about high hairlines, and most of them talk about the hairline at the forehead. however, with me, my hairline at my forehead is fine, its the hairline at the side of my head (near my ears) thats high. its been a real issue with me ever since i was a kid and i’d always need long hair to cover it up so that it wouldn’t seem as if i’m balding (which i’m not). my doctor says that i am not vulnerable to balding when i get older. i am an 18 yr old filipino male. and i was wondering if there are any treatments to this surgically/nonsurgically. i’d prefer nonsurgical more than surgical. but if there is anything at all, pls tell me. thx

Some people have a genetic high temple hairline (above ears) which can be treated with hair transplants very effectively. There are no other treatments for this that I know of.
