CB-03-01 Anti-Androgen — Is It a Future Hair Loss Treatment?

Hello, Doc. I found a study about a future topical antiandrogen that appears to fight baldness.

This is the link: Cosmo reports exciting results in P.O.C. alopecia study

Do you see this treatment as a potential option in a not so distant future?

Thanks for keeping us informed through this great blog.

CosmoIf you understand a basic fact about hair loss, it’s really quite simple: Blocking the impact of androgens at the hair level will favorably impact hair loss. It could be a promising direction, but at this time good data is not in hand, so an anti-androgen cream is not a proven solution for the hair loss problem.

The link you sent is for a press release from Cosmo Pharmaceuticals of Italy, which boasts “exciting results” to get readers interested, but in reality this is just announcing that a proof of concept trial has concluded for something called CB-03-01 on 40 men and 30 women over the course of a month.

The studies and products you and I find on the Internet are usually not new or groundbreaking, though they might sound promising. Both doctors and patients hope the next great hair loss treatment is right around the corner, but we will have to wait for good science to be presented to us before getting too excited about this as a future option. There’s a lot of hurdles it would need to cross before making it to market.

NW 6 pattern stopped totally by finasteride for a long time (10 years)?

Hi, I´m 20 years old. I´m using finasteride since two years and I
have a NW 6 pattern (Hair miniaturized on hairline, top and crown).
I´m sure that finasteride help me in this two years because my hair
is more consistent but I know that I am going to lose my hair
progressively. My question is if you know any case of a NW 6 pattern
who had started his treatment early and finasteride give him results
for a long time (10 years). I need some hope but I want the truth.
Thanks. Regards. Sorry for my english.

I have not seen a complete reversal of hair loss on Propecia on a Class 6 or 7 male your age. Mainly male pattern balding or androgenic alopecia is a genetic condition. When it shows up in the late teens or early 20s, the process is usually more rapid. The drug Propecia (finasteride) with or without Minoxidil may slow down the loss but they will not stop the inevitable pattern from evolving. Surgery can address the balding by moving hairs around to the balding areas but if your pattern is a Norwood 6 or 7 pattern, complete coverage may not be a reasonable goal for hair transplantation.

Change in Hair Character on Finasteride, Why?

I am a 22-year-old male. I started Finasteride 4 months ago and recently noticed that most of my hair became wavy whereas they have always been straight. Is this normal with Finasteride?

I have seen a return to normal hair characteristics when Finasteride works on miniaturized hairs that are involved in the hair loss process. Did you have early hair loss there where Finasteride may have reversed it?

On finasteride and got very horny!

I then got horny, had a full erection and was able to masturbate 4 times in one night. Is that a good sign that the med might be okay?

Working better than most people. On occasion finasteride can increase the sex drive in men.

Chemo After Breast Cancer 2 Years Ago — Hair Still Hasn’t Come Back!

I had breast cancer and my last chemo treatment was in July of 2006. I finished radiation in October 2006. It has been almost two years and my very thick curly hair has not come back. I have a few sparse hairs all over my head, but they are very sparse. I take tamoxifen daily. Will my hair come back and what can I do to help it. I have used Nioxin for two years and just recently started uses minoxidil. Are there vitamins to help? Just what can I do?

I do not know how to help you. My experience is not in the area of chemotherapeutic drugs. Your best information will probably come from the doctors who are managing your chemo. They see many people with hair loss and can probably give you the answers you are looking for. I wish I could offer more, but this is beyond my specialty.

One day post-op 1303 grafts by FUE

I have been asked lately to show more pictures after the surgery so that prospective patients can understand what they may look like. Each patient is different because of hair and skin color. The lower the contrast, the less detectable it is, the grater the contrast the more detectable the ‘beard look’ of new hair is. This patient is 9 days after his surgery. His skin color is olive but his hair is brown so what we are seeing is his brown hair in the recipient area against his olive skin color and an FUE donor area that is one day post-op. Note that there is no crusting present in the recipient area and the FUE wounds are almost undetectable at one day.

China’s Last Eunuch Was Bald?

I read this news story about the last eunuch in China, named Sun Yaoting. At only 8 years old he was castrated… and looking at photos of him before his death in 1996 shows he was clearly bald. I thought castration was the “cure” for hair loss, not that anyone should ever go that far of course. So what’s the deal?

Here’s the news story: LA Times
Here’s the photo of him from the cover of a book: Book cover

Assuming that the castration was complete, there at least two explanations that come to mind:

  1. He had testosterone production from non-testicular sources. We known that women have testosterone and when they lose their estrogen support at menopause, they developing balding.
  2. This may show the phenomenon called apoptosis (a cell that has reached the end of its lifetime) and that the hair in the “patterned” areas had reached the end of their life.

I haven’t read the book and don’t know if there are photos throughout, but I would love to know what he looked like at age 40, 50, 60. Was he that bald at 40, 50, and 60 years old? We only have scant facts here, and I tried finding other photos online but just came up with that same one used on the book cover.

Class 7 Pattern of Balding at 23 and Very, Very Upset (Comments from Reddit)

Have you looked at Scalp Micropigmentation? This is a great and relatively inexpensive solution to get the look of hairs on a closely shaved head. It is such a great illusion that I have had patients examined by 400 doctors who could not tell that the patient did not have real hair.

See pictures here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/bold-shaved-look/

I just can’t accept baldness. from tressless

What Is Your Opinion of All the HT Doctors Based in Turkey? They Seem to Get a Lot of Great Reviews.

There are over 500 clinics in Turkey bringing in over $1 billion per year. Of the 500+ clinics, over 90% are illegal without a doctor in the facility doing the surgery or the anesthesia. Many clinics perform multiple surgeries in a single large room, risking a cross-over of germs or even HIV from one patient to another. Production line hair transplants should be avoided as they are not bargains. Some of the good clinics with a good doctor do good work, but many of the clinics do variable quality work, many with infections reported by my European colleagues and deaths that are never reported. Just be careful and make sure that there is a doctor doing the surgery who has a good reputation.
