I am seeing more and more patients with depleted donor areas and thinning/balding in the back of the head where the hair formerly looked normal. This can be avoided in FUE by controlling the number of FUE grafts excised. It can only be treated with Scalp Micropigmentation which we do routinely in our office.
I came across your website and was impressed with the information you provide. I am a 35 year old caucasian male with black hair who has been losing his hair for the last 6-8 years. I may eventually have a transplant and while I am saving my pennies, I would like your advice on a temporary short-term cosmetic solution to give me thicker hair. I have read about many of the botanical solutions you discussed and I know you cannot believe most of the stuff you read on most websites about hair thickening techniques. However, in at least one blog post you said that DermMatch helped improve someone’s appearance. Can you recommend which of the above topical solution, and let me know if they are safe?
Toppik and DermMatch are good products that can be looked at like cosmetics for hair. DermMarch can be found at DermMatch.com and Toppik can be found at Regrow.com.
The products work differently. DermMatch is a scalp coloring agent (like a cosmetic for the scalp), while Toppik has fibers that cling to the hair. Each have their advantages, but you need some hair for either one of them to bring value. They are relatively inexpensive, worth trying both at least once. They wash right out in the shower.

My question is the following: Do you utilize a sliding scale when quoting prices for patients? For example, if a one person earns a $60,000.00 salary and if another person earns a $160,000.00 salary, would the person who earns $60,000.00 be quoted a reduced fee?
If you purchased a car, whether a Chevy or a Mercedes, the price reflects the cost to deliver a quality product… not the income of the buyer. My staff is well paid and this reflects their skills to deliver a quality service, so the entire package of labor, surgical supplies, and the costs to run a surgical practice reflect the charge to the patient. The surgeon’s fee component is actually relatively low compared to the rest of the costs for the surgeon.
So to answer your question directly, the income of the patient does not reflect the fees we charge.

There is clearly hair growing in the crown where there was not hair before which reflects growth. It is possible that you did not get enough grafts to do the job right? For the size of your crown, I would have expected at least 2000-2500 grafts depending upon the thickness of your hair, the finer hair requiring more grafts. Men with very fine hair with say 2000 grafts, could get this type of result because the hair just doesn’t have the bulk to it. I have been taking Propecia for about two years. It has always worked fine until roughly six months ago when certain side effects began to appear. My lips were swelling quite frequently and I would get hives on my body. I was able to combat this with a daily dose of claritan. I am worried though that these effects could be dangerous to my body, even though the hives never appear while taking claritan and the lip swelling is only a few times a month at most. Also, I was curious to know if there is any correlation to these side effects and the ineffectiveness of propecia. I have noticed an increase in hairloss over the past six months, but still nowhere near as bad as before I went on the drug. Any light you could shed on this matter would be great. Also, I thought I would add that I have experienced no sexual side effects.

You need to have a good dermatologist take a look at you. Although some of the symptoms are reflective of a drug allergy, you may also have some other medical problem. Don’t play doctor. There is an old adage: a person who treats themself has a fool for a doctor. Adhere to good common sense and have a professional look at you.
I am 21 and used Growth Hormone for a little over 2 months i am starting to notice hair loss. Is this temporary or will it grow back once i stop? I have to apologize in advance for the strong opinions I have on the subject you introduced in your question. I always want to know why people your age would take growth hormones, and whether they were under the care of a physician or were just experimenting with them. You didn’t state why you were taking them, but growth hormones can be dangerous and I strongly recommend that you follow up with your doctor to make sure there were no other damages to your body.
With respect to hair loss, growth hormones can certainly precipitate genetic male pattern baldness. I cannot say if the hairs would grow back, but if it was hormone/genetic related, the hair that was lost will probably not grow back.

Human growth hormone (HGH) can cause hair loss, though one could speculate that Propecia might reduce the possibility of loss. Talk to your prescribing doctor about your plan.
