Ecrinal

I started to loose some hair. I decided to buy some shampoo against hairloss and i found one at the pharmacies called ecrinal. On the box it says that it contains ingredients of lipidic nature that come from a gland located at the base of horses’ mane…tricholopids and A.N.P. So i’m wondering if this shampoo may actually be effective?
Thanks.

Mister EdFirstly, please see my previous post about Mane-Tail-Groom. There appears to be considerable support for this product in Europe. But that product is for horses and some humans use it on themselves — what you’re asking about is a shampoo for men and women that has an extract from a horse mane, right?

Dr. Pak first reviewed your question and in researching it, it was obvious that he knew nothing about this family of products and he wrote: I do not know of any “tricholopids” or “A.N.P.” (I don’t even know what that stands for). Furthermore, I am not a veterinarian and don’t know what relevance a horse’s mane has to do with human hair growth. I am curious what would make a horse’s mane better than that of a lion, perhaps? Or what about a hairy monkey? More importantly, how did they get these “glands”? How many horses’ glands were sacrificed for the sake of hair? I wonder what Pamela Anderson would say as the spoke person for PETA.

I think Dr. Pak has a humorous writing style, so I thought I’d try get a smile from you by posting his response. The serious answer to your question is — I have no idea.

Scarring from FUE – Why Does It Happen and What Can I Do About It?

The scarring is related to the size of the instrument used by your doctor. When the punch is 0.9mm or less, the scars are less prominent. If you have scars as some people do, regardless of the surgical technique, then Scalp Micropigmentation is a solution to “wipe” them out visually. We do this all of the time for people who had an FUE procedure.

Eltroxin and Female Hair Loss?

Does Eltroxin used for hypothyroidism cause hair loss. I am 47 yrs old and have menopause. Does low estrogen level cause hair loss. Will I need to take some preparation of Estrogen to prevent hair loss?

Eltroxin (levothyroxine) is known to cause hair loss in some, though it is usually temporary (see side effects).

Low estrogen can also cause hair loss. You should talk to your doctor about these issues.

Seasonal hair loss reported

I am beginning to notice a trend of accelerated hair loss during certain times of the year, particularly in the winter months. I’m from western Pennsylvania and as such we experience all four seasons, with winters fluctuating from brutal to mild all in the same season. I’ve noticed that my hair looks much more thicker and darker during the summer months , but has the months turn colder I begin to notice distinct hair loss on the the sides and top of my head. The density of my hair in these areas is noticeably less, as you can see bits and pieces of my scalp through my hair, especially on the sides of my head. My guess for the cause of this rapid hair loss during the winter month is due to the lack of sun that provide vitamin D and being pent up in the house resulting in minimal exercise. Another thing I noticed is during the last stretch of winter, is that my mood is quite negative (seasonal depression); perhaps resulting in even more hair loss.

Has anyone else noticed a similar pattern during the winter months? And if so, how did you deal with this issue? I have began taking fin (4 months in with the fin) and vitamin D3 supplements as well as doing my best to watch my diet and exercise outside despite the freezing cold. I’m wondering if there anything else I can add to routine to lessen the affects of this kind of hair loss?

Humans have asynchronous hair cycling while other furry animals have synchronous hair cycling that is tied to seasonal changes. Certainly vitamin D deficiencies will cause hair loss and we get good doses in summer if you are out in the sun, but we usually don’t fluctuate on our Vitamin D levels by the month unless you live in very norther climates where there is no or minimal daylight in the winters. We know that people who live in norther Scandinavia, for example, develop Vitatmin D deficiencies not infrequently and this may impact their hair. Taking oral Vitamin D may solve this problem for this population of men and women.

Erectile dysfunction sometimes and not other times since I have been on finasteride

I began taking fin on December 1, so right now, still very early in the game. I’ve had sexual intercourse with my significant other later that week and I had difficulty keeping an erection. We decided to take a break from intercourse and try other things in the interim. In those encounters, I’ve had weaker than normal erections. On the contrary, when masturbating, I’ve had minimal difficulty obtaining and keeping my erection. Libido itself isn’t down, but I’m definitely having tons of performance anxiety. Is this normal? I’ve perused a bunch of articles and studies about taking fin, and knew of the side effects, and deep down inside, I feel I will be fine, but any type of professional advice would be appreciated. You seem to be knowledgeable and experienced with patients prescribed this medicine. Is this all common response, and if so, any tips on how to overcome?

Thanks in advance, if just for reading this.

It you can keep a strong erection when you masturbate, then the problem may be interpersonal between you and your partner or a placebo effect.

Segals Solutions

Dr,

I am hearing lot of ads about ‘Segals Solutions’ in India nowadays and heard that this product is from Canada and claims to be working well for a long. Does this really help in growing new hair or reducing hair loss? Appreciate if you could pick up my question and give your valuable review/response,

Thanks in adv

SegalsThe Segals Solutions website says the product is “100% effective” and then just below it is says an independent study shows “67% noticed a reduction in hair loss”. So it works 67% of the time, every time? Uh huh. It then goes on to say that it is very convenient to use, in that you only need to rub their lotion on your scalp and leave it there for a minimum of 6-8 hours, then shampoo your hair with their product, and then take their pill in the morning. Where is the convenience?

I haven’t heard of this hair loss “treatment” before, even though they say it’s been made for 30 years. You’d think that with 30 years of success, there would be more than 2 before/after photos available on their site (and even those are smaller than my thumb, making it hard to see what’s going on). The lotion you leave on your scalp for 8 hours contains biotin, saw palmetto, B vitamins, and some other stuff, but the shampoo is just listed as containing “herbs”, and I have no idea what is in the pill. They say the entire treatment contains African “herbal technology” including rooibos, which is a tea common in South Africa. It goes on to discuss a French lab study showing hair benefits, but no further details are given, I can’t find the study, and I doubt it’s been peer reviewed.

I’ve gone over this before — there are two proven treatments that are FDA approved safe and effective, minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia). If anyone wants to give Segals Solutions a try, by all means don’t let me stop you. Just keep in mind you’re probably wasting your time and money, as even their own marketing information sounds confused about what results you are “guaranteed” to see.

Every Time I Use Minoxidil, My Heart Rate Goes Up.

Minoxidil is an antihypertensive medication, therefore it can lower your blood pressure. This could cause an increase in your heart rate. If this is a problem, you may not be a candidate for this medication. You should ask your doctor.

Exercise Gives You Better Erections

“Men who engage in a high level of physical activity report better erectile and sexual function regardless of their race”. The study seems to cross all racial groups (March 20 in the Journal of Sexual Medicine). The threshold seemed to point to at least 2 hours of strenuous exercise such as running or swimming, 3.5 hours of moderate exercise, or 6 hours of light exercise.
