Is this Traction Alopecia?

I am a 21 year old female suffering from traction alopecia. Unfortunately, due to my work I have to wear my hair in tight ponytails. I believe this has caused me to lose hair around my temples. What are my options ?

I would like to know if it is present on the other side as well. Sometimes a condition called Triangular Alopecia can cause a pattern of hair loss like this, but not as large. As your history is consistent with traction as a cause, then a hair transplant is the perfect answer, regardless of the cause.

8 months on finasteride and now I have just developed nipple pain

I’ve been on finasteride 8 months. Hair is great. Freaked out about sides for the first few months but eventually calmed down and stopped visiting this forum. My sex drive is fine; however, I do have what seems like it could be the start of gyno behind one nipple. Its either that or just a swelling of tissue there (i mess with them a lot and could have squeezed too hard once). Its sometimes has a dull pain when i press on it, but the nipple isn’t sensitive.

See a doctor for an examination as that will identify and hopefully solve the problem.

It has been 4 months, has the hair transplant failed? (Photo)

You are actually ahead of the curve and already have growth. At 4 months you still have another 4 months to see 80% of the growth to styling length of about 1 1/2 inches. Patience is a virtue, so wait a few more months and you might be very happy yet.

I’ve Been Bald for 15 Years, So Is Rogaine Still An Option to Try for Regrowth?

All of my male relatives on both sides are bald, and I have been bald since I was 30 (currently 45). Is rogaine still an option for a head that has been basically dormant for 15 years? I have very little growth at all on top and in the back and I don’t know if it is a mid life crisis but I would like to have natural hair again. My brothers use toupees, but I refuse to go that way.

Please let me know if it would worthwile to try it, or if there would be little likelihood for success. Thank you.

NW7I would want to see you to determine just how bald you are and to figure out if these medications could help; however, if you have a full Norwood class 7 pattern of balding, you most likely will not have much of a benefit from Rogaine (minoxidil). Even if there is hair regrowth, it will be scant growth and not enough to make a notifiable difference.

A Few Years Ago a Bald Spot Appeared at My Hairline…

A few years back I lost hair in a small area on the front of my scalp. My hair has not thinned anymore or anywhere else. Just this one spot on the front on my scalp, almost like a receding hairline but only one one side? What could it be?

You need to get a good doctor to look at it. There are many things that can cause a single spot of hair loss and a good dermatologist should be able to make that diagnosis for you.

I’ve Got Thinning On the Sides and Back of My Head

Hello Doctor,
I would really appreciate it if you could answer my question. In the past 5 years I have started thinning slowly. My question is are there “unconventional” balding patterns for men. I have a receding hairline and a thinning crown which points to mpb, but recently the sides of my head as well as the back have started to shed and thin a bit. If my destiny is severe mpb (as it might be since I’m only 23) can this happen, or could it be some other health problem? Thank you very much for your time!

You need to be examined by a good doctor and get a miniaturization mapping to find out if what you think is happening is actually happening. If the sides and back are indeed thinning, that is not typical genetic loss and could point to disease or maybe an allergy. I could guess all day, but you should get to a doctor to find out what’s going on.

A Patient’s Hair Transplant Done by a Non-Physician

You can see that this man had a poorly designed Scalp Micropigmentation procedure with a straight hairline, and then a hair transplant on top of it. Much of the hair appears to have failed to grow. It was done at a bargain price.

I’ve Taken Propecia for 6 Years with No Side Effects!

Dr. Rassman,

I really can’t think of any other industry – medical or professional – that has a preeminent member so willing to directly interact with the general public. You do a great service (and a excellent technical execution of it with your website) and I wanted to start off by thanking you for your contribution. Imagine a world that had this sort of “hands-on” information from the most knowledgeable people available on other life and business topics.

Just a quick note – I recently turned 30 and marked my 6th year with Propecia. I’ve never had a single side effect, and I wanted to highlight your point about the internet being filled with the loud minority that have problems. Us folks with happy results tend to keep quiet and go about our business. I was certain when I started I would be bald by now, but happy to report a full head of hair – it really does dramatically stop the speed of genetic MPB. Good thing smart Doc’s like you are not afraid to stick up for it.

Cheers!

I’m glad the medication has been successful in maintaining your hair and I’m also pleased that you enjoy the site. I really appreciate emails like yours (we all like a pat on the back once in a while), so thank you for your kind words.

A Week After Highlighting, I Have a Bald Spot!

(female) I had my hair highlighted approx 1 week ago, i thought everything was fine, but i now have a very sore bald patch at the top of my head,do you think this was caused by the hairdresser at all,i have had my hair done in this way many times ,but have never had anything like this happen before!

Thanks

PS, im really scared that all my hair is gona fall out!!!

Ouch! Chemical burns from dyes start off just like you’re describing. You may want to see a dermatologist to find out if the burn did indeed go deep enough into the skin to cause the problem.
