My Gynecomastia Is Returning, But I Don’t Want to Stop Propecia

Hi Dr.Rassman,
I currently have been on finasteride, 1mg, for 8 months with good results, although I do have a problem with gynecomastia(glandular) as I have gotten it excised twice before and unfortunatly It’s flaring up again. I did have this before I was on propecia. Im just afraid that the doctor will stop the propecia If I tell him its flaring up again and I dont want to stop using It. What should I do? Thank you in advance for your respected opinion

You can talk to your doctor about reducing the dose to 1/2 or 1/4 of a Propecia pill, but since you had gynecomastia twice before taking it, I’d wonder if this round of gynecomastia is even related to the medication. Be open and honest with your doctor, and if he decides to take you off Propecia, explain your case.

Do you have a hormonal imbalance or something that might be causing this? I’d also discuss the other causes of gynecomastia with your doctor.

Can finasteride completely restore my hair?

I was wondering if fin restores pre-thinning hair, if caught early. Will it give you the hair you had as a teenager, for example. Is this possible? I’m 21 years old.

Sometimes, if you catch the hair loss early, finasteride can restore it to pre-loss levels. This occurs only for the mature hairline, not your juvenile hairline.

My Hair Is Thinning Where My Head Lays on My Pillow

I love your site.

I have a strange question for you. For the last few months I have been sleeping with my hand kind of positioned as a pillow, if that makes sense. I also sleep on one side and it just so happens my hair has thinned out just in this area. Between the ear and my temple right at the front edge. This is exactly where my hand is when I sleep. Could this be caused from this. I have changed my sleeping pattern, will the hair grow back. Thanks

I have never seen this before and only have had one person that I can recall even writing to me about a similar situation (Ergonomic Pillow and Hair Loss), and except for people who have trichotillomania and pull on their hair even in their sleep.

You should be examined by a good doctor. A miniaturization study should be done to see just what is happening. If your hair is miniaturized and you are rubbing on it, it might come out.

When can I get a haircut after my FUE

How long after am I able to trim the implanted section so that the transplant does not look noticeable. I also have redness in the recipient area, why is that?

Most of my patients can trim their hair or get a hair cut in 2 weeks after an FUE. The presence of redness on the skin is either infection or just a histamine reaction in your skin. Your doctor can tell you which it is.

My Hair Loss Stopped After I Moved to a Warmer Climate

Dear Doc
Mine seems to be a unique case as I have not found answers anywhere. Though I have seen many people with my condition.

I lived around 4 years in UK; where I used to shed a lot of hair. I do not shed hair anymore after migrating to a warmer climate.

Now I am left with a diffused patch on the top of my head. It is very unlike a male-pattern case. Before UK; I used to notice a little thinning. But now it is very prominent as my scalp reflects light from the top of my head. All other areas; including hairline have very thick hair. If I part my hair in the middle, the thinning top of my head is very clear.

If you wish I can send you some pictures. But my description sums it up. Any idea why some people have this form of hairloss? Thanks in advance.

It may just be coincidence or less stress in your life. Otherwise, you would see more bald men in the northern/southern poles and less in the equator. Clearly this is not the case. I can give you no medical explanation for this.

Can Hair Transplant Techniques Be Refined Even Further?

hey dr i was just wondering if you feel hair transplants have peeked or will they improve some way in the future i just analyze them in terms of reaching their full potential but your opinion is greatly appreciated as always and also do you see them getting any cheaper in the near future also

I think that the technology has been pushed as far as it can go as we mimic just what nature does. The problems in the community are mainly related to the surgical team, and a few issues with physician education. Too many doctors are doing this with inexperienced teams of assistants, so the practical problem is to get the standards up. When the transplants do not grow as expected and the surgical team is less skilled, the failures are often caused by an inexperienced team.

With regard to pricing, this is not a commodity and as such if the prices go down much from where they are, the quality of the teams just won’t be there. We pay our staff competitive wages so that they can support a family, have health insurance, etc. If you ask our patients you will find the theme they speak of is our quality patient care and great results.

My hair turned white

I’m in my mid 20s and I got a hair transplant done 6 weeks ago. I have started to notice a lot more white hair on my head after the transplant. Significantly more than before. Am I just aging? Or have the hairs temporarily turned white as a result of the physical trauma of the surgery?

We have performed over 17,000 surgeries over 31 years and I don’t remember anyone’s hair turning white immediately after a hair transplant. I have seen significant changes in hair texture, a few men developed kinky hair but not white hair.

Can I do more FUE grafts, my last session failed? (Photo)

Further FUE grafts harvested from the area shown where the previous grafts were removed will eventually make that area bald. The sides are reasonable additional donor source for FUE if this area was not harvested before. Strip surgery may also be possible for additional grafts. A careful discussion with an expert surgeons is critical to evaluate your residual donor hair supply and your Hair Mass Index.

My Last Hair Transplant Was Over 2 Years Ago and the Scar is Still Pink

Hi,
I have had 2 successful transplants, the last being about 28 months ago. My scar is still a light pink colour. My scars usually take a long time to fade, so I think this is probably normal for me. Is it possible to use lasers get the scar to fade as I would like to get SMP into the scar. Or alternatively, can you get SMP and then reduce the scar redness with lasers, or would this likely cause the SMP dots to fade too?

If you let your hair grow out to a reasonable length, the pink color of the scar will be covered. That’s the easiest solution, really. Was your scar pink for a long while after your first hair transplant?

You may just have to wait it out. You can try topical hydrocortisone (a small dab spread over the scar) for up to to 7 consecutive days, then pull back for two weeks and try it again. This might work to lessen the pinkness.

Can I Go Bald By Sharing Shampoo with a Bald Person?

My question is can someone go bald if they share stuff with a bald person. sharing a soaps, shampoos, combs, and such or sharing a pillow.

Hair loss does not reflect a contagious disease. If it was contagious, then there would be as many balding women who share such soaps and shampoos with their husbands or boyfriends.
