It has been well-established that heavy drinking during pregnancy causes problems for the fetus, but, after studying 500 newborns at the University Hospital in Erlangen Germany, they found higher levels of a particular chemical, Ethyl Glucuronide, in women who had two alcoholic beverages per month. They followed these babies to the age of 6 and found that these babies have a lower IQ than normal babies by 4 points. This suggests that even less drinking can also cause the problem and would obviously be a major problem for children.

I have been on topamax for 20 years and now wear wigs. I am completely heart broken. I had lovely hair. I was put on Topamax for a off label use for mood disorder when I could of been put on so many other different medications. It is so very sad. I am 47 and I have to wear wigs to look pretty. I stopped taking this medication (cold turkey) six months ago with no problem at all and have noticed no change so far.

I had a man a while back who did Scalp Micropigmentation after he took off his hair piece which he wore for 25 years. He went to the office and everyone commented that he should have shaved his head years ago because he looked good showing off all of that “nice hair”. Is it a coincidence or not that both my father and my grandfather (his father) went bald, or is it because of the similarities? My father has an overbite (his top jaw is more in front of his bottom jaw), as did his father. My grandfather and father went bald at about the same age, which was their early 20’s, although my father said he noticed hair loss at around the age of 18-19.

My brother who does not share this bite similarity is now 26 has his hair, but has an asymmetric pattern which has been this way since his late teens, and has maybe matured/receded more since then, but he has a healthy head of hair.

I guess my main question is: since I also have this overbite like my 2 bald family members, does this put me at more of a risk of balding because I have a facial feature more like them, or is balding simply not relateable whatsoever to minor facial similarities. I guess my concern is inheriting genetics.

I wouldn’t expect facial features and hair loss to have relation. You can get tested for the balding genes with HairDX and that will give you an idea if you are carrying the gene for balding. It won’t tell you if that gene will express itself (or to what degree, or when)… but it’s something to go on if you’re concerned.

i’m 19 and she is 18 and we’re both going to be sophomore in college next year and she is going to dorm next year and im worried that we won’t be together because i’ll become too far gone and she will find someone with a really nice head of hair and obviously a personality and whatever. i happen to think i have an amazing personality but this hairloss would make me look, ugh idk like very unpresentable

Sometimes you need to challenge a relationship to find out its value. If your girlfriend would leave you simply because of hair loss, then she is shallow. You have value well beyond your appearance and your hairline. Think about that and if she goes away, she is not worth keeping

Can you imagine having to walk around like this. The doctor has no sense that there was a technique to wash off the crusts the day of and the day after the surgery. Within 3 days of surgery you should look perfectly normal and able to go out in public without detection. By the third day, you should be able to resume full activities, heavy exercises if you wish. The recipient area requires daily washes as well to keep the recipient area free of crusts. I generally recommend the use of a sponge and supply my patient with a surgical sponge to fill with soapy water and press on the recipient area daily. By repeating this daily, all crusts can be washed off without any fear of losing grafts. IF any crust are present, use a Q tip and dip it into soapy water, and roll it on the crusts and that will lift them off without dislodging them, but never rub them, just roll the Q tip on the recipient crust. I like to see no evidence of any crusting in the recipient area and the crusts from the donor area gone in 7-10 days with daily washing. Below are two patients, this one with terrible crusting on the left and one of my patients on the right placed side by side for comparison purposes. Both patient are 6 days after the transplant. The FDA regulates laser devices and the inks used to remove tattoos. Some Lasers have been cleared for use in tattoo removal.

The FDA has cleared several types of lasers as light-based, prescription devices for tattoo removal. A Massachusetts company recently received FDA clearance to market its laser workstation for the removal of tattoos and benign skin lesions. Baldingblog has mentioned, in a previous post, that 21% of people who have tattoos, regret having them done. As such, this 21% of those who have tattoos, are candidates for Laser Tattoo removal. Once the ink is placed in the dermis of the skin, these inks will mostly stay in place for a person’s lifetime. Tattoos are intended to be permanent.

The laser pulses a high-intensity laser energy pulse through the epidermis targeting the pigments below the epidermis. “The laser breaks the pigment into smaller particles, which may be metabolized or excreted by the body, or transported to and stored in lymph nodes or other tissues”, says FDA’s Mehmet Kosoglu, Ph.D.. “Lighter colors such as green, red, and yellow are the hardest colors to remove, while blue and black are the easiest.”

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the procedure requires multiple treatments (typically six to ten) depending on a tattoo’s size, colors, and depth. and requires a few weeks of healing time between procedures.

In Scalp Micropigmentation, we use darker colors and when performed correctly, keep the volume of the ink small and placed in the upper dermis. If the ink would be placed too deep in the dermis, it would not be a dot, but rather a blob. Doing this correctly requires a specialized skill that takes many months to master. Unfortunately, the poorly done tattoos on the scalp, place the inks too deeply and a large volume is often used, making it more difficult to remove them.
