In the News – Prince William’s Hair

Snippet from the article:

Prince William has found himself in a hairy situation. The British royal, 27, appears on the new cover of Hello! Magazine with a suspicious head of full, dark hair, a far cry from his usual thinning mane. While it looks as though the prince dyed his hair, inside images prove the cover photo may have been the result of some clever lighting or avid Photoshopping.

William sports his traditional dark blond locks in additional photos found inside the British tabloid, the Daily Mail reports.

Prince William appears to have some hair thinning with his natural hair color, but the photo of the Prince with dark hair look like the work of Photoshop. Not only is his hair darker, but it looks thicker than in other pictures I’ve seen. Judge for yourself:

When you have an advanced balding pattern as you do, transplanting the frontal half is a great starting point because the man in the mirror will look hairy. Make sure that your doctor and you discuss your residual donor supply to see if you can address the crown at a future time. I have written articles on transplanting men with advanced balding patterns when they don’t have the donor supply to meet their needs. If your surgeon follows my published articles, you can work your way to the back of your head, regardless of your donor supply. I like what you are doing!

In the News – Stress Research in Mice Could Lead to New Hair Loss Treatment

Snippet from the article:

Mouse researchers conducting stress hormone experiments have stumbled onto a surprising new discovery — a potential treatment for hair loss.

Scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Veterans Administration were working with genetically altered mice that typically develop head-to-tail baldness as a result of overproducing a stress hormone.

The experiment wasn’t focused on hair loss. Instead, it was designed to study a chemical compound that blocks the effects of stress on the gut. The researchers treated the bald mice for five days with the compound and then returned them to the cages, where they scampered about with several furry mice from a control group.

Doctors interviewed in the article are cautioning that not only might this mouse study not be applicable to humans, but that even if it is, it would likely only lead to treating stress-related hair loss (not genetic hair loss). The article also notes that mouse hair growth cycles are different from that of you and I. This is early research, so I’m sure there will be more news on the horizon.

A full work-up with blood tests and an extensive examination is needed ( https://baldingblog.com/common-blood-tests-for-female-hair-loss/ ). Do you have a family history of hair loss on the female side of your family? In the News – US Panel Advises Against Routine Prostate Exams

Snippet from the non-hair-loss article:

Healthy men should no longer receive a P.S.A. blood test to screen for prostate cancer because the test does not save lives over all and often leads to more tests and treatments that needlessly cause pain, impotence and incontinence in many, a key government health panel has decided.

The draft recommendation, by the United States Preventive Services Task Force and due for official release next week, is based on the results of five well-controlled clinical trials and could substantially change the care given to men 50 and older. There are 44 million such men in the United States, and 33 million of them have already had a P.S.A. test — sometimes without their knowledge — during routine physicals.

I know this isn’t hair loss related, but it’s important medical news that the male visitors of this site should read.

For many years, we have known that most men with prostate cancer will never actually die from the disease. The decisions to treat it and how to treat it are very controversial. I was never satisfied that there is any good treatment — or rather, any one treatment — that is better than an another. Treating prostate cancer through radiation or surgery has significant side effects, and the risk of sexual function loss is a real one for those men who decide on surgery.

There are many types of prostate cancer from an aggressive point of view. The opinion expressed in this advisory just takes the view that “what you do not know will not hurt you”. I am not sure that I believe this, but then again, I don’t believe in many of the treatments being offered either. I’ve always wondered what I would do if I had an elevated PSA test, but thankfully I’ve not had to make that decision.

Inflammation on Finasteride with More Hair Loss

ive been on Fin for a couple months with great regrowth. 1 month ago i started noticing some scalp inflammation, and it got really bad last week. Although i couldnt see alot of hairshedding, some parts of my hair took a big hit, and thinned out really fast. Anyone know how long it will take to regrow after ive adressed the inflammation?

See your doctor. This is important to understand and get the right advice.
