How do you find the best hair transplant doctor in North America? (From Reddit)

My boyfriend is balding and does not believe in hair transplant procedures. I’m looking for a top doctor/establishment in North America to have a consultation and hopefully change his mind about undergoing the procedure. Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations since I’m not sure where to start/go looking.

I always tell patients to check out the doctor’s experience and rule out doctors who sell their services through salesmen or saleswomen. What would happen if i take fin at 17?

Should i just wait until i’m 18? I have a good amount of hair but i can see thin parts when i pull my hair or especially when i get out the shower. And do i take fin for the rest of my life?
I have prescribed finasteride for many 17 year old males. It is safe and contrary to fears of it impacting growth- there is no evidence that it does. Waiting, if you are losing hair now, will just make it worse.

How does your hair loss compare to others in your family?

I often tell my young male patients to see who in their family line (mothers fathers or fathers and uncles) and that might help them if they can identify their hair loss history with one of them (uncles, brothers, fathers, grandfathers, etc.. How Important Is It to Take Propecia at the Same Time Daily?

How much does taking Propecia at exactly the same time each day matter? I try to take it within 10 minutes or so, but occasionally I am 2 to 3 hours late. I know you have said that the half life of the medication is only fours. By the time 24 hours passes, has essentially all the medication left the body so that if you don’t take it again at exactly the same time you are going that extra time without Propecia? Will taking it a few hours late cause a decrease in benefits?

It is not critical to take Propecia at the same time each day, but it does make sense. I take my medications in the morning so I develop a routine and do not have to remember if I took them. Maybe it’s my age. As long as you take it daily, you shouldn’t see any decrease in benefits by taking it a few hours later than the day prior.

When Should I Apply Minoxidil After I Take a Shower?

I have thinning hair on the top of my head. Should I apply minoxidil after a shower when the hair is still damp, or wait till it dries? If I apply when it is wet, it seems like more gets to the scalp since less gets absorbed by the hair and is easier to apply in between the hairs. But if the skin is nearly saturated with water, won’t less medicine get absorbed? The instructions don’t cover this.

I would use a towel to dry your hair and then apply minoxidil while the scalp circulation is increased from the warm water.

Where does my hairline belong? (photo)

The hairline belongs about one finger breadth above the highest crease of the furrowed brow. This man will find that his hairline was transplanted unnaturally too high. I believe it belongs about 1 inch lower than the surgeon placed it about where I placed the arrow. In addition, the hairline is lower on the patient’s right side.

How Long Should it Take for My Sperm Count to Go Up After Stopping Propecia?

Firstly I love your blog. I just read your article regarding the potential affect of Propecia on sperm counts. Myself and my wife are trying for a baby and I want to give myself the best chance possible of conceiving. How long after people who stopped using Propecia see there sperm counts raise, as I am considering stopping the drug during the crucial ovulation period

There was a study conducted at an infertility clinic (on men with severely low sperm counts to begin with) that I think you’re referencing — Study – Sperm Count and Finasteride.

As it seems that you’ve had a sperm count done, I would expect that an improvement in sperm count should occur within a month after stopping Propecia. I am curious as to how low your sperm count was or what your physician suggested. Most men on Propecia can conceive a baby, but some men have a reduction of total sperm volume even though the sperm count per unit volume remains normal.
